Augustine Washington  and Mary Ball Washington   had President George Washington   on Friday, Feb 22, 1732, Bridges Creek, Westmoreland County, Virginia. Named for Colonel George Eskridge, his mother's guardian. The Father of our Country. He inherited Mount Vernon in 1752 from his half-brother Lawrence. Concerning the 29 page Will of President George Washington: The executors agreed among themselves that the business of the settlement of the estate should be left largely to Bushrod Washington and Lawrence Lewis. Nearly half a century after Washington's death, with all of the executors but George Washington Parke Custis dead, no final settlement of the estate had been reached. See Custis to Lorenzo Lewis, 20 June 1846 (Mount Vernon Annual Report, 1952, 52). After he inherited Mount Vernon, Washington had the old tomb built according to the instructions laid down in his half-brother Lawrence's will. The tomb was built on the side of a steep hill about two hundred yards south of the mansion house. It was a plain, bricked up excavation in the hillside. Whenever the tomb was opened for a new occupant, the bricks had to be removed and replaced again after the burial. Mrs. Washington instructed that a door be made for the vault after her husband's burial, observing "that it will soon be necessary to open it again." By 1799 the tomb was in a ruinous condition from tree roots and moisture. After Washington's death John Adams requested and received permission from Mrs. Washington to remove Washington's body for reburial in a crypt to be built under the dome of the United States Capitol. This was never done, however. In 1831, after an attempt was made by vandals to steal Washington's body from the decaying tomb, Lawrence Lewis and George Washington Parke Custis built a new brick tomb west of the mansion, in the "Vinyard Inclosure" mentioned in Washington's will. The bodies of George and Martha Washington and other family members buried in the old tomb were reinterred in the new vault. For more on GW's tomb, see Paul Wilstach, Mount Vernon, Washington's Home and the Nation's Shrine, (New York, 1916): 223-24, 247-50, and Prussing, Estate of George Washington, 239-42.

Hosiah Hathcock  was born in Abt 1750. GGGG Grandfather of Clayton Howell Heathcock. Quoted here directly from the website of Clayton Howell Heathcock, see source website for this line: ÒBy the late 1700s, Hathcock families had established themselves in the Hillsboro District of central North Carolina. Sometime between 1790 and 1800 a part of the family migrated to Northeast Georgia and settled in Elbert and Franklin Counties. Early Elbert County land lotteries show that there were several Hathcocks there as early as 1800, including Hosiah (Hosea) Hathcock and his son John Hathcock, Sr., who was born in North Carolina in about 1774. The following are listed: (a) 1804-05 Land Lottery of Georgia (Elbert County); Roziah Hathcock, William Hathcock, John Hathcock, Widfred Hathcock (Widow), John Hathcock, James Hathcock. (b) 1806 Land Lottery of Georgia (Elbert County); Oziah Hathcock, William Hathcock, Herbert Hathcock, Orphans of William Hathcock. A 1795 voters list of Elbert County shows that John Hathcock was there as early as 1795. The approximate time of the move is shown by the fact that many of the Hathcocks who appeared in Elbert County around 1800 had been enumerated in Chatham County, North Carolina in the 1790 census. Hosea Hathcock lived in Elbert County until at least 1840. He is thought to be a brother of James Hathcock, born in Northampton County, North Carolina in 1743, also a Revolutionary War veteran. Hosea Hathcock's entire family is not known, but there were several Georgia Hathcocks who may have been his sons (William, Isaac, James). He also may have been the father of several other Hathcocks who lived in Elbert County in the early nineteenth century and who migrated shortly thereafter into northern Alabama (Denson, Dancy, Asboth, John, Sr).Ó

Martha Washington's granddaughter Eleanor Parke Custis, who had come to live at Mount Vernon as an infant, was married in the house on Washington's birthday in 1799 to Washington's nephew Lawrence Lewis. Lewis had in August 1797 at Washington's urging come to live at Mount Vernon so as to relieve his uncle of some of the burdens of entertaining the steady stream of visitors. In September 1799, at a time when Washington was seeking ways to reduce the scope of his farm operations at Mount Vernon so that he could assume direct control of them himself, he wrote to Lawrence Lewis about the provisions he had recently made in his will for him and his wife Nelly. The portion of the Mount Vernon holdings that he indicated was to go to the newly married couple was all that lying to the north and west of the road to Alexandria. This included Dogue Run farm, the mill tract, and a wooded tract of about four hundred acres which Washington had got from Charles West in 1772. He urged Lewis to build soon a house on the Charles West tract for himself and Nelly and to go ahead and rent at once the farm, grist mill, and distillery, all of which he could manage until they came to them at his death. Lewis did begin renting, and the couple later built their house, Woodlawn, beyond the mill. For Lawrence Lewis's invitation to Mount Vernon, see Diaries, 6:255. For the bequest to Lewis and his wife see ibid., 1:241, and GW to Lewis, 20 Sept. 1799.

Rice Farrar Ross and Sarah A Bonham Ross Rice Farrar Ross (3 Dec 1776-8 Apr 1856) & Sarah A Bonham (5 Oct 1787-29 Mar 1849) - a record of their family and descendents. By Rivers Farrar Ross in early 1900's. Sent to Bryan by Jack Ross. Note on the page (highlighted items added by me, Jack Ross) in early 1980's (by Jack) Jack got it from Cecil Rice Farrar Ross (Grandfather of Isaac Rice Ross) No written record has been found, but according to information handed down by word of mouth, it may be stated that his ancestry is as follows; His grand-father accompanied by two brothers and a sister came to America before the War of the Revolution, from Ross-Shire Scotland, and settled near Charlotte, N.C. The Sister went to Boston, Mass, to teach. The descendants of these three brothers evidently one ived in the states of North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia. One of the descendants married a Burbank, famous agriculturist. Many more persons by the name of Ross were in the first census taken in 1790 but none of them can be identified as being the father of Rice F. Ross. The place of his birth is not known. However in an old family Bible, now in the possession of his grand-daughter, Mrs. Sarah E. Ross Johnson, the date of his birth is given as Dec. 3, 1776. He was married to Sarah Bonham on April 3, 1803, at Lincolnton, N.C. She was born on Oct. 5, 1787, in Lincolnton, N.C. They lived in Lincolnton for several years and at least three of their children having been born there. They then lived in Greenville, S.C. for a time, where he bought several hundred acres of land from 1803 till 1818. A severe drought hit South Carolina in 1819 and lasted several years, and it was during this time that he and his family moved to Tennessee. They settled near a village on the crossroads of the Atlanta and Nashville stagecoach line, in what was then Bedford County, Tennessee. The name of the village was Hillsboro. It is located on the old state highway #2 (now hwy. 41) midway between Nashville and Chattanooga. It is in Coffee county, this having been formed when Bedford county was divided into several other counties. On July 22, 1836, he bought 200 acres of land on the Roan Buck Branch of the Bark Camp Fork of the Duck River. Later that year he bought another 70 acres and another 30 acres also on the Duck River. In Dec. of 1844 he purchased 50 acres of land on the Bradley Fork of the Elk River. On the 17th of Jan. 1849 he sold 200 acres on the Duck River to Silas McBee after whom he named his youngest son. He prospered and was known to have had several slaves. Later though, he lost much of what he had accumulated by reason of having gone security for others. At one time it was necessary for him to sell eleven of his slaves. He was elected the second register of Coffee County beginning his first term Sept, 1, 1839; re-elected Sept.1, 1843; reelected September 1, 1847, and served until April 3, 1848, when he gave up the office to attend to his wife who was in failing health, and in a serious condition. His wife, Sarah Bonham Ross died March 29, 1849, and was buried in what is now an almost abandoned cemetery, known as the Ragsdale Schoolhouse cemetery. After her death, he lived with John F. Ross, his son , and in 1856, while enroute to the house of his son, Absalom Ross, who lived in Rome, Georgia, he was thrown from his horse on which he was riding, and died as a result of the injuries he sustained, on April 89, 1856. He is buried in Rome, GA. but the place of his interment is not known. (Provided by Deanne Neff.)

John Parke Custis  and Eleanor Calvert Custis  had George Washington Parke Custis  in 1781. President Geo Washington undoubtedly would have left a great deal more land to Martha Washington's only grandson and his own ward, George Washington Parke Custis, had he not already been well provided for. Eighteen-year-old Custis, who like his sister Nelly Lewis had lived at Mount Vernon since his infancy and was still living there in 1799, was the heir-at-law of his father John Parke Custis from whom he had inherited extensive holdings in New Kent, York, and Northampton counties and elsewhere. He also would at Martha Washington's death take possession of his grandmother's dower lands and slaves. The tract of land on Four Mile Run of about 1,200 acres which Washington left him was about four miles north of Alexandria on the road to Leesburg. Washington had agreed in 1774 to pay £450 for the land to each of the brothers George and James Mercer, who had been given joint ownership by their father, John Mercer. When some question later arose about Washington's title to the land, James Mercer in 1787 confirmed Washington's ownership and agreed to credit him with the payment of £450 to George Mercer's estate in return for Washington's crediting that amount toward the payment of their father's long-standing debt to the Custis estate. For many years Washington had been bothered by timber-stealing poachers on this land, which he had left undeveloped. As recently as April 1799, he had resurveyed the tract himself and taken steps to put an end to the depredations. See GW to James Mercer, 12 Dec. 1774, and note 3 of that document, 19 Nov. 1786, n.1 (Papers, Colonial Series, 10:201-5; Papers, Confederation Series, 4:386), and GW to Ludwell Lee, 26 April 1799.
