John was a large man. At one time in his later years he weighed 320 lbs. He died of a heart attack while watching Trapper John on television. At the time of his death, he weighed approximately 260 lbs. The night before he died, we stopped to visit and he was alone counting hedgeball seeds he had extracted from 2 hedgeballs which George Schmeisner of Clearwater, Kansas had sent to him. He had dried them and the final count was 863 seeds. He loved to tinker. (Herman D. Lauterbach, January 3, 2003) 276
