| Notes |
“In addition to the children listed above, my grandfather, Lewis Ball Richardson, and wife adopted a young boy by the name of Jesse Byron. Jesse was orphaned by events of the Civil War. He was one of many orphans brought North by railroad in freight cars for adoption by families in and around Springfield, Illinois.
Jesse and his wife Lyde lived in Alton, Illinois, in the later years of their lives. It was through their efforts that my parents selected Alton the place for me to finish the last two years of my high school education. I attended Alton High School and worked in the summer vacation for an architect by the name of Maupin.” (In a letter by Louis A. Richardson, Jr., February 16, 1980) 322 |
