Hospital where Sara Anne was born. The site of Samuel Maverick's first 1620s residence, the parcel was one terminus of the 17th century Winimessett ferry. Purchased by the Charlestown Navy Yard in the early 1800s, in part for a naval powder magazine, the site was transferred during the mid 1800s to the Chelsea maritime and later Chelsea Naval Hospital. Primarily located atop the drumlin, this fifty+ building complex was surplused in the 1970s. Many of the hospital buildings were converted into apartments and condos, while the river terrace was transferred to the MDC in 1980 for open greenspace. The site includes Mary O'Malley Park.
